The Founder Dependency Audit

Eight things owners describe before they have language for the problem. Select the ones that are true this month.

Decisions that should be owned elsewhere keep returning to you.
Progress depends on your involvement more than it should.
When you step away, direction blurs and momentum slows.
Your leadership team is capable but waits for your read.
You have added senior people without reducing what you carry.
Strategy lives in your head more than in the business.
Growth has made the company more complex, not more capable.
You are the final backstop for anything that matters.

04 / The Pattern

Dependency is not a character flaw. It is a design stage.

Every company that grows past its original design produces the same pattern. Strategy expands faster than it can be transferred. Structure lags behind complexity. Leadership steps in to cover both, and becomes the system.

The owner is not the problem. The owner is the patch. Decisions route to you because routing to you works, and it keeps working right up until your calendar becomes the constraint on growth.

Nothing is failing. Leadership is compensating. The score above measures how much.

05 / What owners do with the result
Low

Keep the design ahead of the growth. The most useful thing at this stage is knowing which decisions you still hold and why.

Moderate

This is the window where structural work is cheapest. The team exists. The habits are not yet permanent. Most of our engagements start here.

High

The instinct is to hire a senior operator. It usually fails, because the new hire inherits the same system that routes everything to you. The system moves first, then the hires work.

A diagnostic conversation.

The purpose is diagnosis, not performance. We will tell you what we see, including when what you need is not us. If there is a fit, we say so directly. If there is not, we say that too.
